Instituting the Fellows Workshop

One of the founding aims of the Academy, as stated in the its Constitution, is to "provide a forum for seasoned intercultural researchers, educators, and trainers to exchange ideas about research and training."

During its meeting in April, 2006, the Board of Directors affirmed this important aims of the Academy and decided to institute a day-long Fellows Workshop as a regular feature of future conferences.

The Board's decision stipulates the following details:

1. The Fellows Workshop will be scheduled for an entire day immediately preceding the opening day of each conference.

2. Each Fellows Workshop will address the theme of the conference itself. The 2007 Fellows Workshop will address the conference theme, "Globalization and Diversity: Theoretical and Applied Perspectives."

3. Proposals will be solicited from Fellows and Associate Fellows who are interested in presenting a completed paper at the workshop. All submitted proposals will be reviewed and screened by the Workshop Conveners and by members of the Conference Planning Committee. The criteria will be the likelihood hat the paper will make a significant contribution to research on the conference theme and will result in spirited discussion during the Workshop.

4. At least one month prior to the Workshop, authors of accepted proposals MUST complete a full paper and distribute it, via e-mail, to all Fellows who have registered to participate in the Workshop.

5. During the Workshop, each paper presentation will be followed by a discussion period. In this period, the author(s) and participating Fellows will engage in an open exchange concerning the issues addressed in the paper.

6. The Executive Committee of the Academy will seek to find an appropriate arrangement (e.g., an edited book, a special issue of IJIR, etc.) to sponsor publication of the papers presented in the Workshop. Each Fellow who presented a paper will be given a period of time to revise and submit it for possible publication in the Academy-sponsored publication.
