Michele J. Gelfand is an Associate Professor of Organizational Psychology at the University of Maryland, College Park. Her doctorate (Social-Organizational Psychology) is from University of Illinois--Urbana where she was a student of Harry Triandis. Her research focuses on theory and method in cross-cultural psychology (cultural tightness and individualism/collectivism), negotiation and conflict, and workplace diversity and discriminination. Her work has been published in such outlets as the Journal of Applied Psychology, the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, and the Journal of Cross-cultural Psychology. She has been the recipient of two National Science Foundation grants and serves on the editorial boards of the Journal of Applied Psychology, Personnel Psychology, Journal of Cross-cultural Psychology, and International Journal of Cross-cultural Management and is the Associate Editor of Applied Psychology: An International Review. She is currently the treasurer of the International Association for Cross-cultural Psychology and the 2005 Program Chair of the Conflict Division of the Academy of Management. Dr. Gelfand received Ernest J. McCormick Award for Early Career Contributions from the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology and LL Cummings Scholar Awad from the Academy of Management.
