THIRD BIENNIAL INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE
ON INTERCULTURAL RESEARCH

PRESENTED AND CO-SPONSORED

BY

THE INTERNATIONAL ACADEMY FOR INTERCULTURAL RESEARCH

AND

NATIONAL TAIWAN NORMAL UNIVERSITY

MAY 21-24, 2004
(Postponed from May, 2003)

TAIPEI, TAIWAN

THEME:

HARMONIZATIONS BETWEEN WITHIN-CULTURAL
DIVERSITIES AND CROSS-CULTURAL COMMONALITIES.

General Theme, Objective, and Program and Open Invitation:

This biennial conference of the Academy focuses on the central theme of harmonizations between the characteristics of indigenious groups and those that are found cross-culturally. By harmonizations, we denote the important concepts of recognition, respect, and mutuality between various indigenous cultures/groups across all the dimensions of their activities. The immediate objective of this Conference is to provide an international forum for scholars and practitioners of intercultural relations and related fields to engage in broad and meaningful dialogues. In particular, the Conference will target the systematic analysis and integration of various theories, strategies, and practices in addressing interactive issues between diverse groups both within as well as those that transcend national boundaries.

ALL theoretical and empirical works without respect to discipline are solicited. Preference will be given to those proposals which embody an interdisciplinary approach to the themes, objectives, and goals of the conference. However, participants are welcome to address any cross-culturally comparative issues that are relevant to intercultural research and relations. These can range anywhere from the family to international relations.

The Conference will feature keynote speakers, paper presentations, topical panels/symposia, workshops, posters, and other formal and informal exchanges of ideas and experiences. These programs will be presented either separately or jointly in English and Chinese (Mandarin). In addition, a 3 day post conference tour of the northern and central regions of the Taiwan Island has also been planned.

The National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU) is honored to co-sponsor this important international conference and we endeavor to perfect all conference plans. We are confident that participating in these conference will benefit all attendees, both personally and professionally, in harmonizing interactive issues both within and between diverse cultures.

With such unique benefits to offer, we (the faculty of NTNU and the Academy) all intercultural scholars, researchers, and practitioners to join our endeavors and to also bring your family and friends for a memorable visit to this beautiful ("Formosan") island.
